HyperX Cloud II in test: bestseller among gaming headphones

HyperX Cloud II has been on the market since 2015, but is still at the top of the bestseller lists. We find out why this happens.

With the

HyperX Cloud II

We tried a microphone-headset for games that has been very popular for seven years and is also considered a confidential tip by many players. In addition, the headset is regularly on the bestseller lists from Amazon and Co. That’s why we took a closer look at the model.

HyperX Cloud II: High quality designed, comfortable gaming headset

Its design

somewhat reminiscent of the popular Beyerdynamic models: two red aluminum forks hold the ears, which means they can not be rotated (in) but tilted. Overall, the gaming headphones are consistently well made with some high quality materials. Thanks to the soft ear pads with imitation leather cover, the comfort of use proves to be very high, even after several hours. The only downside is that we warm up a bit around the ears. However, this can be significantly reduced with the supplied ear pads with a fabric cover – very nice! What is striking, however, is that the headset sets only moderately filters out ambient noise despite the design above the ear. So if you are betting a lot in noisy environments, you should pay attention to this point.

Cable remote control and surround sound 7.1

The HyperX Cloud II connects via a four-pin, fabric-covered plug that is permanently integrated into the handset and is one meter long. This means that gaming headsets can also be used on mobile devices such as smartphones. However, you are going to plug the socket into the cable remote control into the two-meter extension cable, and then operate the device via USB. Because only then does digital audio processing (DSP) take place, through which, among other things, a virtual 7.1 surround sound can be activated. On the remote control itself, the volume of the microphone and the microphone can be adjusted separately at the touch of a button, and the microphone can be muted using a slider.

Digital audio processing (DSP) is done via USB, which can be used, among other things, to enable a virtual 7.1 surround sound.

Sound and microphone in practice

The sound of the HyperX Cloud II is quite balanced overall: the bass is strong and dominant, the midrange is well defined and the loud ones are not bad, even if we noticed that the noises or S noises are reproduced somewhat intensely in places. However, the gaming headset is suitable for games as well as music and movies.

The HyperX Cloud II's flexible, built-in microphone boom is fully detachable, which is an advantage for on-the-go use.

can be completely removed, which is an advantage for use on the go. Speaking of travel: The HyperX includes a bag to at least protect the gaming headset from scratches and dirt during transport. In terms of voice transmission, we are impressed not only by the clear, almost natural reproduction, but also by the effective filtering of ambient noise. So players can be sure that the team will always understand you clearly.
